Apprentice FAQ's
What happens once I have registered interest in the programme?
Thank you for taking the time to register your interest. Now leave it with us and we will get in touch to inform you via email when the application process opens. The numbers we recruit each year depend on business needs and so we only open up applications once this is determined. We usually open our application process around the end of January each year. If for some reason you haven't heard back from us by then please do not chase us on this as it only delays the overall progress. All candidates will receive an email confirming whether or not they have reached the next stage of the process throughout the ongoing selection process. You can reapply next year if you have been unsuccessful this time around.
How many different types of Apprentice Schemes are there?
We have hands on shop floor focussed Apprenticeships within our Product Development, Marketing, Sales and Service and Manufacturing functions.
Once we assess your skills and personality during your first year at college, we will assign you to one of our four career pathways. The four pathways are tool room, maintenance, manufacturing or automotive. If you make it to the 'engineering maths test stage' of our recruitment process you will receive a detailed explanation of these career routes.
What is the culture like?
Jaguar Land Rover is a dynamic and innovative business that invests strongly in new technologies and sustainability. You will be encouraged to "think Green" from day one of the programme. It is an organised and professional working environment – as you'd expect from a large globally recognised company. We'll play our part, but we'll also expect you to behave appropriately, come to work regularly and on time, and work hard when you are with us. There are no 'easy jobs' so if this is right for you then please read on….
When does the Apprentice Scheme start?
If you pass our assessment process and achieve the grades that the job offer will be conditional upon, then we start our new recruits at the start of the academic year (September) each year. No apprentices start before this as we do group inductions.
What’s involved in the Apprentice Scheme?
Visit our website to get an overview of what is involved, along with entry requirements.
What will I earn?
We offer our Apprentices a competitive salary with additional benefits to take advantage of.
How do I apply?
All applications need to be made online using the application process. Do not accept any other forms of application such as CV's. This is your chance to show us what you have to offer so allow time to give you the best opportunity to demonstrate your skills.
What locations are the Apprentice Schemes based at?
You will either be based at one of our West Midlands sites, or Halewood in Liverpool. If you apply for the West Midlands opportunities, then the site you will be based at will depend on our business, and the job role requirements. Many of our current apprentices have moved away from home to take advantage of our programme but we do not offer relocation packages – and from time to time you may be asked to work at other sites as part of your training.
What qualifications will I gain?
You will earn an NVQ2 in Performing Engineering Operations, an NVQ3 in your chosen trade pathway and a technical certificate, as well as developing wider key skills. You may even get the chance to complete an HNC, foundation degree or equivalent City & Guilds qualification to help you refine your skills and expertise. None of our apprenticeships are office based jobs or will lead directly to a degree, so if that is what you are looking for, it may not be the right scheme for you.
Does the Apprentice Scheme lead to a confirmed job offer?
Like most organisations this is a possibility but can not be guaranteed. However, working hard and showing us you have the right talents to continue working for us, will always help. However, what you will gain along the way are employability skills sets that will be transferable.
What’s Jaguar Land Rover’s view on Equal Opportunities?
We welcome applications from all backgrounds and gender. All applications will be treated fairly and without discrimination. Jaguar Land rover has a broad mix of employees all of which are equally accommodated.
Do you make reasonable adjustments for people with disabilities?
Yes, we apply reasonable adjustments to suit individual’s needs in line with business requirements
How long is the scheme?
On average the programme is 42-48 months in duration but if you have existing qualifications that count towards the apprenticeship requirements it may be possible to shorten your individual learning programme via prior learning accreditation.
Are there any pre-requisites?
If you don't have or don't expect to get the grades required, then we would welcome a fresh application when you do. Sometimes people tell us that they have lost original proof of qualifications which you are required to bring with you and checked when you come to sit our Engineering Maths test. If this is the case, don't delay in getting proof from your awarding body because otherwise we may not allow you to sit the maths test. Getting duplicates/proof can take 6-8 weeks, so start this off at the earliest opportunity to avoid disappointment.
We will also ask for you to demonstrate that you have the right to work in the UK.
We don't insist on a driving licence but you are expected to be able to travel between our various locations independently if it is required.
